The Midwest Renewable Energy Association (MREA) promotes renewable energy, energy efficiency, and sustainable living through education and demonstration. We implement recycling, composting, and reuse whenever possible in our office all-year-round and we try very hard to implement the same strategies at The Energy Fair. Please help us get things in the proper bins to further reduce our impact.
Waste Reduction Efforts
Did you know that when you enjoy lunch at your favorite food vendor booth your plate/fork/spoon/glass are all compostable? We require all food vendors to serve on biodegradable dinnerware, so make sure your used items get placed in the compost bin.
Have you been to any of the various breakfast and dinner offerings throughout the weekend? We serve thousands of individuals delicious meals during the weekend of The Energy Fair and we use real dishes to reduce waste. We couldn’t do it without our volunteer groups who help us wash thousands of plates/silverware throughout the weekend.
Bring your own water bottle
We do not allow the sale of bottled water on site during The Energy Fair. We have three watering stations available on the fairgrounds, please look for this symbol on the map in your Program Guide. Did you forget your bottle at home? Support the MREA and purchase a reusable metal water bottle at the MREA Marketplace, members receive a 10% discount on purchases.
Don’t know what bin to choose?
Please reach out to a staff member or volunteer if you are unsure of what waste bin you are looking for. We are happy to answer your questions.
